The Earwax Removal Procedure
At Evear Hearing, our certified specialists are equipped to address earwax buildup safely and effectively. The procedure begins with a visual examination using an otoscope. Our clinics are equipped with video otoscopes, allowing you to see the inside of your ear canal on a screen.
If a significant buildup is detected, we’ll proceed with the removal process using one of the following best-practice methods:
Methods of Removal
-
Water Irrigation:
Using a specialized irrigation unit, we direct low-pressure pulses of body-temperature water into the ear canal to flush out wax. This method is effective when the ear canal is healthy, and the eardrum is intact. -
Micro-Suction:
This technique uses a gentle vacuum system to remove wax and debris. A lighted suction tube is carefully inserted into the ear canal for precise removal. -
Dry Removal:
We use curette instruments, such as the Hal-Hen Ear Light, equipped with various tip styles to gently remove wax or debris near the ear canal entrance.
The most suitable method for your case will be discussed and determined during your appointment.
Preparing for Your Appointment
To ensure a smoother and quicker removal process, it’s highly recommended to soften the earwax before your visit. You can do this by using ear drops for 3–5 days leading up to your appointment. We offer earwax removal drops for purchase at our clinic to help with this preparation.
What Not to Do
Avoid attempting to remove earwax at home with cotton swabs, hairpins, or other objects. These methods can push wax deeper into the ear canal, potentially causing severe damage or even puncturing the eardrum. Our trained specialists are certified in safe wax removal techniques and use tools designed specifically for the procedure.
Why Regular Earwax Cleaning is Important
While earwax is essential for ear health, excessive buildup can lead to complications such as:
-
Blocked hearing or muffled sounds
-
Visible wax on your pillow
-
Earaches or a sensation of fullness
-
Persistent itching in the ear
Excessive wax can harden over time, creating blockages that impair hearing and increase the risk of infections and discomfort. Regular cleanings by a hearing care specialist ensure your ears remain healthy and your hearing stays sharp.
Take proactive steps to maintain your ear health by scheduling regular earwax removal appointments at Evear Hearing. Let our specialists help keep your ears clean and your hearing at its best.
